Chris comes from a tradition of restaurant innovators and big thinkers. His father (and Bolay cofounder) Tim Gannon founded Outback Steakhouse in 1988.
Armed with ambition and purpose, Chris reached out to talented people in the business—people like Chef Martin Oswald, a Wolfgang Puck protégé—to design nutrient rich, exciting, and flavorful menu of kale, brussels sprouts, quinoa, and premium proteins.
The fresh and bold food, the friendly faces, and the exceptional service would bring in guests and keep them coming back for more.
Today, Chris’s vision is very much a reality. The “Bolay Way” has come to embody everything that makes dining great—community, health, passion, flavor, and service.
Always so fresh! I love how simple but delicious the ingredients are. It’s the type of place where you know what you’re eating!
I like their cilantro noodles. The forbidden black rice tends to always be a little dry and crunchy the past few times I’ve tried it.
Mojo pork is great! And the lemon chicken! Sometimes the teriyaki chicken has way too much teriyaki sauce which is just overwhelming and ruins the dish.
They also had a chia seed pudding which was AMAZING.
My biggest feedback is I wish they were open later!!! They close so early!
I love trying new restaurants and Bolay did not disappoint! I was visiting South Florida and my friend convinced me to try them as they offered healthy food options.
You walk in, get in line and tell them what you want and they put it together right in front of you. I went with the Asian sweet potato noodles, roasted broccoli and mushrooms. With a small bowl you get one noodle/rice choice and two veggies. I chose spicy shrimp as my protein.
Everything was fresh and deliscious! My spicy shrimp was juicy with a little kick. I loved the noodles and the fact that they were made from vegetables. I do not eat broccoli but was given a sample and loved it! Mushrooms are always a go-to for me and they were prepared perfectly.
I tasted my friend’s BBQ chicken with her meal and it was also delicious. Service was friendly and and they were patient with newbies. I loved reading all of the artwork, both positive and funny, throughout the restaurant.
If you are looking for a healthy semi fast food choice give Bolay a try. I hope they will open something soon in Jacksonville!
Love this place it’s always so clean and the food is always good although I’m sad they changed the type of noodle for the cilantro lime noodles. The angel hair was the best!
The food is fresh, tasty, and good for you! I like the different protein options but the shrimp is my favorite. It is not spicy (which is good for me!) but flavorful. You feel like your eating something good for your body instead of filling up with junk. I love the strawberry yogurt as a dessert.
A clean great “lunch” meets chipotle style serving for the healthier eater. Very clean environment with even s sink to wash your hands as you get in queue to order. It’s like chipotle in the sense you order a bowl with a base, 2 -3 veggies depending on your size dish and a protein. I got the kale with Brussels sprouts and broccoli and topped with tofu. We also ordered another bowl with black rice, balsamic mushrooms and potatoes topped with Thai shrimp. Very good portion size, the food was fresh and delicious and affordable. Be sure to try their juices too. We got the pineapple ginger one and a delicious assortment of ice tea they brew there.
I love the assortment! Had tofu and chicken with two kinds of noodles. As always it doesn’t disappoint! Store is clean and bathroom was perfect and supplied. That’s good for semi fast food!
I’ve never been to a Bolay before and finally had a chance to check one out. I wasn’t sure what to expect – is it like chipotle? Is it healthy? How is it different?
I entered the restaurant with no expectations. I was immediately surprised as they had an open hand washing station upon entry; a nice surprise given the times. When I got to the “assembly line” aka the food counter, the staff was super friendly. There was a nice assortment of bases, cilantro noodles, sweet potato noodles, black rice, kale, jasmine rice etc. once you pick your base(s), you’re given the option to choose your veggie. They had a good selection of broccoli, green beans, mushrooms, and others.
After this came the protein – the selection was pretty good, although I felt the lack of red meat was disappointing. They had chicken, pulled pork, and for an upgrade, shrimp.
Finally, you pick your toppings/sauces and you’re good to go! I really enjoyed my meal and would enjoy going back given the wide variety of combinations you can make.
The store also has a great selection of fresh brewed teas which was a nice change of pace from other restaurants. I’d definitely go back.
