Okeechobee Steakhouse was founded as Okeechobee Drive-In in 1947 by the Lewis family. In 1974, son Curtis Lewis changed the name to Okeechobee Steakhouse to align itself with the restaurant’s main dishes and showcase the establishment as a true steakhouse. True to its roots, Okeechobee Steakhouse is still located in its original location. The family selected the once remote, wooded site as its location because the original Mr. Lewis predicted correctly, eventually everything would have to move west of downtown West Palm Beach.
This three-generation business takes pride in their legendary service and unforgettable hospitality, ensuring that traditions are continued. The Lewis family believes in their staff and trains everyone from the ground up. Their daily goal is to continue the impeccable service and preparation that the establishment has been providing for seven decades.
Awarded to Okeechobee Steakhouse, the only restaurant in Palm Beach County to receive this prestigious award which recognizes restaurants that offer more extensive wine selections with significant vintage depth and breadth across multiple regions.
Overseen by wine director Christina Wishart, the 800+ label list is appropriately red-heavy, with a generous by-the-glass selection. The program is strong in white wines as well, which pair well with our ever-popular shellfish appetizers and classic salads. From start to finish, our world-class wines are sure to delight even the most discerning wine enthusiast.
Wow! That’s all I can say about Okeechobee Steak House. From start to finish, our meals were absolutely delicious.
We started off with bread and drinks. The drink was spicy, I forgot the name. It was good but very strong! My boyfriends rum and Coke was also extremely strong so beware lol.
Bread was given, and was good. Your entree comes with a house salad and a potato side. I chose house salad with balsamic vinaigrette and garlic mashed. The salad was great! Filet Mignon 9 oz was medium and was cooked divinely. The garlic mashed potatoes were amazing as well. Not a single negative thing to say.
Our waiter took the time to explain each meat cut and it’s flavor so we would make a good decision on which to pick. There’s no chicken option here so it’s either beef or seafood!
NOW, the best part was the coconut cream pie. My goodness I’m still thinking about it! It was 10/10. My boyfriend had the peanut butter pie with Oreo crust and it was a bit too much peanut butter for my taste so that’s something that should be shared, otherwise it’s overwhelming.
Can’t wait to be back!
My family and I made reservations for four for a Friday night. To start, we ordered the escargot and calamari. Both were good, although I didn’t care for the way the escargot were prepared with puff pastry and mushroom. For dinner, we ordered two ribeyes cooked medium-rare and asparagus and creamed spinach for sides. We asked the waiter to have the kitchen to slice the steak for us, which they did. The steak came with a side of either steak frites or a baked potato, so we got one of each. The steaks were also served with garden salads. Everything was wonderful. The steaks were flavorful and cooked perfectly. For dessert, we ordered a the coconut cream and key lime pie, which were both fantastic. I ordered a decaf coffee with dessert, which didn’t have a lot of flavor or taste like coffee at all.
Overall, the food and service were both excellent. Our waiter was knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. I would definitely recommend Okeechobee to someone looking for a good steakhouse.
I feel bad for taking so long to dine here. As a lover of steakhouses, we felt our anniversary presented a great opportunity to check it out.
The valet was easy breezy and we were able to be quickly seated on a weeknight. Our server was amazing and agreed we should start with a proper cocktail. I had a cosmopolitan and he enjoyed an old fashioned. We tried so many things – bread, salads, sides, big steaks (get their classic cut), bottle of wine… we did not want to leave. The mac and cheese was next level. The food was truly the star of the show.
Everything was cooked perfectly and the customer service was superb. The valets brought the car around as quickly as they took it away, no waiting around.
I am certain we will return. They even have a solid happy hour menu. Trust me, this is a classic steakhouse that you need to check out.
This was our first visit and we were celebrating my wife’s birthday. The nice thing is when you join as a member you get a free New York Strip Steak on your bday with the purchase of another entrée of $40.00 or more.
We sat at the bar so we were able to take advantage of the Happy Hour drink prices whish was great! Our bartender UNA was spot on and did a great job explaining the menu as well as making suggestions and not coming off as to pushy as many servers can be at these higher end restaurants.
We started with a Calamari Appetizer which was cooked perfectly. We didn’t order any extra sides as the entrée comes with a house salad and a choice of potatoes or fries. My wife had the New York Strip cooked med rare and I ordered the Sirloin which is their special and I ordered my steak medium. They were cooked well and had great flavor but for the price I wasn’t blown away and honestly I had a steak 2 weeks earlier at Texas Roadhouse I thought was better and cost $18 rather than $60.00
All in all it was a good experience. If we were to go back it would most definitely be during Happy Hour which packs them in. There were people circling the bar waiting for seats.
This storied family owned and operated local steakhouse- Okeechobee Steakhouse has one of the best Happy Hours in West Palm Beach! Truly not to be missed. $5.00 house wine and bar bites from $4-$6. The cheeseburger is $5.00 really! Amazing! One of the most delicious burgers I’ve ever had.. yes it is a small burger 4-6 oz.. but packed with flavor and cooked to order! it’s the best value! After work on Sunday afternoons it is what we look forward to.. affordable, top quality meats, great service by Austin- what more can you ask for! Supporting our locally owned and operated restaurants is important to me and my family. All our family celebrations are enjoyed here.. our Anniversaries, Birthdays and Celebration of Life dinners.
I will say that for our dinners I always order the Ribeye Pittsburgh style medium rare and they are the most delicious and always perfectly cooked! I look forward to my Sundays at Okeechobee Steakhouse! I highly recommend this amazing restaurant- the experience is one not to be forgotten! I highly recommend for lunch , dinner and Happy Hour!!
While the food and service were consistent as always and we do understand that food costs have increased, I am not sure that nearly double the price from a few years ago is justifiable.
The portions seemed smaller as well and while they may not be known for the desserts, they tasted pre-cut and held the hint of the refrigerator lingering in them. Not a pleasant taste for a dessert.
I do not believe that we will return since we can make a great streak on our own, at a fraction of the cost.
Always wonderful. The steak is aged in the premises and is carefully overseen by Mr Lewis himself. I’ve reviewed the steak house previously. Okeechobee seafood is fantastic. Add the usual steak menu to the seafood and you get a wonderful selection of great food, good old fashioned service and a fabulous experience.
Their wine selection is exquisite
I often sit at the bar solo or with my wife. Great to meet people and just have fun.
Don’t forget that you get a free steak on your birthday
What a nice surprise! I have heard about this restaurant for years, because he has been here for … years … We were in the area and decided to give it a try. Think old, dark steakhouse vibe. We did not have a reservation, however they accommodated us right away. The place was packed, and there are a lot of moving people to get the job done for all of the hungry customers. We had Debbie as a waitresss. She was nice, witty and had great recommendations. They bring the meat out raw on a platter for you to decide what type of meat you want to consume. It took a while to get drinks and to order, so I advise to look at the menu prior to getting there so you can order right away. We had plenty of leftovers, I will add the photos in my reel. It is not cheap, however it is quality so we do not mind paying for quality. We will definitely go back. Parking is tough. They do have Valet though. Enjoy!
